Liberty_C. - “Honesty” – a reckoning with liars, traitors, and betrayers

With her latest single “Honesty” the Austrian Soul-Pop singer and songwriter Katja Cruz aka Liberty_C. shows off her angry side. With her current 4-piece band, she has brought out a highly energetic reckoning with liars, traitors, parasites, secretive people, and swindlers.

With the words “I don’t need no other liar anymore, no pretender, no cheater anymore...” Cruz opens this song, in which she expresses her contempt for fraudsters of all kinds. “It is a shame how many such creatures exist as private individuals as well as in business and politics”, says Cruz. “It’s just that liars like to gather liars around them. I guess they recognize each other and also like to occupy important positions with their peers, because they know they can be manipulated. So everyone plays their own game of power and interest and doesn’t feel so bad about it, because everyone else is just as corrupt.”

But Cruz also speaks out what we need – people who are sincere and have the courage to stand up for themselves and others, who have visions and ideas that serve this world and us humans. “I want people who stand tall with power and strength, with visions, and courage, and integrity.”

What would this world look like? “The good vision is that there are more and more sincere people, gathering more and more people of integrity around them to strengthen each other – as private individuals as well as in important positions in business, politics, and the media. Every individual can share in by living this vision and setting a good example for our children and fellow human beings. If you have that desire, let this song strengthen and inspire you.”

“I want your honesty, your sincerity, for what you do and who you are.”

Musically, Liberty_C. worked out this concern in sophisticated arrangements and contrasting parts with a lot of drive. In composition, Cruz skillfully alternates between minor in the verses and the parallel major key in pre-chorus and chorus, which harmonically illustrates the two content sides of the song. Strong and unpretentious, Cruz sings and accompanies herself at the piano. Markus Adams saxophone sound can already be described as a trademark of this band; in the 8-bar trading of the outro he and Andreas Sassi Krampl on bass shine in turning solo parts. Ernesto Grieshofer dexterously pushes the action forward with rich beats.
